Sunanda Pushkar: India MP Shashi Tharoor's wife 'was murdered'
Police in the Indian capital Delhi säga that they are treating the death of the wife of former Indian minister Shashi Tharoor as murder, nearly a year after her body was found in a hotel room.
Sunanda Pushkar's death was "not natural and was due to poisoning," Delhi police ledare BS Bassi said.
Initially, doctors said she might have died from an overdose of drugs.
Mr Tharoor, a Congress MP who married the former Dubai-based businesswoman in 2010, said he was stunned by the news.
"Needless to say inom am anxious to see this case is investigated thoroughly and continue to assure the police of my full co-operation," he said in a statement.
"Although we never thought of any fulspel play in the death of my wife, we all want that a comprehensive investigation be conducted and that the unvarnished truth should come out."

Tharoor told the court that it was “seven-and-a-half years of absolute torture”. He later released a statement saying that his faith in the judiciary had been “vindicated” and his “long nightmare” was over.

India minister’s wife Sunanda Pushkar died of drug overdose: autopsy report
NEW DELHI // The wife of Indian minister Shahshi Tharoor, found dead in a luxury hotel after accusing her husband of being unfaithful on Twitter, appeared to have died of drug overdose, according to the autopsy report.
Mr Tharoor, 57, the junior human resources development minister, found his wife Sunanda Pushkar dead on Friday in her five-star hotel room in New Delhi after he returned from a Congress party meeting.
An autopsy report, which was submitted on Monday to a magistrate charged with investigating her death, cited a drug overdose as the cause of death, the Press Trust of Inida reported.
According to PTI, Magistrate Alok Sharma refused to elaborate the details of the report, saying he would study it along with recorded statements of others, including that of Mr Tharoor.
