James Alexander Stewart Stevenson (Gaelic: Seamus Alasdair Stiùbhart MacSteafain; born 15 October ) is a Scottish former politician who served as Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change from to and Minister for Environment and Climate Change from to A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), he was Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Banffshire and Buchan Coast, formerly Banff and Buchan, from to [1]
Early life
[edit]Stevenson was born in Edinburgh. His father James Stevenson was a doctor and his mother Helen MacGregor was a teacher.[2] He was brought up in Cupar, Fife. He was educated at Bell Baxter High School then studied mathematics at the University of Aberdeen.[3] He worked in information technology with the Bank of Scotland for 30 years,[3] retiring in as Director of Technology Innovation.[ • THE Scottish Parliament election saw the curtain komma down on 20 years' service as an MSP for Stewart Stevenson. Initially entering the Scottish Parliament in a by-election in in the then Banff and Buchan seat – previously held bygd Alex Salmond – Mr Stevenson went on to hold the roles of Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change and then Minister for Environment and Climate Change. His seat, now called Banffshire and Buchan Coast, was held for the SNP bygd Karen Adam, albeit after a nail-biting tussle with the Tories. Mr Stevenson revealed that this is bygd no means his first attempt at retiring. "This fryst vatten actually my fourth attempt at retiring, the first being back in ," he said. "I have to say that getting up and looking at an empty diary is disconcerting. "I do have things to do inom just haven't got my diary organised, which fryst vatten going to be one of my first tasks."
