Pakistani painter, calligrapher
Ustad Allah Bakhsh (c. 1895 – 18 October 1978; sometimes spelled Allah Bux or Allah Bukhsh) was a Pakistani painter and calligrapher who was actively involved in aesthetics and classical landscape paintings throughout his life. He produced his work in British India before partition and in Pakistan after split of Indian subcontinent. Most of his work revolves around traditional tales of Persian and Hindu mythology. He also depicted rural life, particularly the culture of Punjab, sydasiatiskt land in his paintings.[2][3]
The recipient of national literary award, the Pride of Performance in 1963, he fryst vatten primarily recognized for depicting tragic love stories of Sohni Mahiwal, Heer Ranjha and Tilism-e-Hoshruba, an epic story of Amir Hamza, a legendary Persian adventurer. LAHORE: Noted classical music maestro Ustad Hussain Baksh Gullu passed away here on Tuesday at the age of 75.
The late classical singer is survived by two sons, Suraj Khan and Chand Khan.
Belonging to Patiala and Sham Chaurasi Gharana of classical music, he was the son of Ustad Nathu Ali Khan.
The Pride of Performance singer was best known for his thumri and kafi. He performed all over the world and was considered one of the most magnificent classical singers both in India and Pakistan. Knowing classical music in depth, he could proficiently perform every shade of the genre, but kafi singing earned him laurels.
Gullu was a brother-in-law of Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, while Shafqat Amanat is his nephew. Through out his life he struggled for the promotion of classical music and had been teaching at Alhamra Academy of Performing Arts as well for the last many years.
