Interview lars eidinger biography

  • Born in Berlin, he is also a DJ and photographer.
  • The great German stage actor is thrilling new audiences with SS-GB and Personal Shopper.
  • Lars Eidinger (Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper, SS-GB, Babylon Berlin, High Life, Dumbo) is interviewed for his new film Persian.
  • We caught up with the German actor about lockdown, the role of the artist in times of crisis and whether this year’s upheavals will spark meaningful change.

How did Corona become tangible for you?

It’s the first time I’m talking about Corona, because I don’t feel I have any more to say than any other person. Why should it be any more interesting to hear what an actor has to say about this? But I suppose for me, there was this suddenness to it – I had the opening of Ibsen’s Peer Gynt (John Bock’s one-man piece at the Schaubühne), and I was working a lot. Of course, the focus is always the opening and you invest so much work and passion into it. We played it six times and then suddenly it stopped.

You were very busy at the Berlinale this year with two lms – Vadim Perelman’s Persian Lessons and Stéphanie Chuat and Véronique Reymond’s competition title My Little Sister. The sudden rupture must have been quite a shockR

Lars Eidinger is an hour early to our interview, which takes place inside the Hyatt Hotel press area of the Berlinale. “I got the timing wrong,” he confesses, followed by a no-problem kind of shrug. When we do start, at the scheduled time, after he’s waited around for an hour, Eidinger is every bit the fashion icon we may expect him to be, wearing a black Balenciaga blazer with matching/not matching Prada trousers, holding a white bag which may or may not be a reusable plastic shopping bag. And he’s kind, the best accessory for any fashionista. I notice the large shopper he’s carrying because much of the information that is available online on Eidinger has to do with one such shopping bag, a PB 0110 by Philipp Bree X Eidinger designer version of an Aldi supermarket bag and the scandal that caused when the actor was immortalized sporting it in a promotional photo in front of a homeless camp.

But when I meet Eidinger in Berlin, it is to talk about his latest act

"This occupied me because our time suffers from the distinction between good and evil. Right and wrong. Black and white."

Why did you uppstart taking photographs?

I can't remember a time when inom didn't take photographs. inom started very early and one of the first pictures inom took was of a hamster when I was 6 years old. This photo fryst vatten also in the Hatje-Cantz book "Autistic Disco". In Berlin there used to be a career resultat centre where you filled in forms and at the end you were told what career you should take up. For me, it came out photographer.

Can you explain your title "Black & vit Thinking" to the readers?

Actually, Black and White Thinking is a phenomenon from psychology. It is pathological and describes the phenomenon of cognitive distortion. One perceives the world in extremes and not as it actually appears, complex, full of nuances, intermediate tones and contradictions. This concerned me because our time suffers from the
