Mum 'felt like Erin Brockovich' fighting for law changes after son's prescription drug death
Following the launch of a new system in Victoria designed to monitor potentially addictive prescription medicin in real time, Margaret Millington says her son Simon's death will not have been in vain.
"We've achieved what we set out to achieve," she said.
Being involved in a car accident at the age of 18 did not kill Simon, but the powerful painkillers he was prescribed to manage the injuries he got in the accident, eventually did.
Simon died from an accidental prescription drug overdose in 2010 after grappling with addiction for 16 years.
His parents, Margaret and John, have not wavered in their conviction that they had try to prevent other people going through the same thing.

Iconic environmental activist and consumer advocate Erin Brockovich has been revealed as a guest speaker at this year’s IoD Women’s Leadership Conference.
Known for “fighting hard and winning big”, Erin will join the leading business organisation for its virtual Women’s Leadership Conference sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills, taking place in March.
Erin, whose story became the real-life inspiration for Oscar-winning film Erin Brockovich, worked on the largest medical lawsuit in history against a major company for hundreds of people who had unknowingly been exposed to toxic waste.
