Jay Slater’s disappearance has exposed the horrifying cruelty of social media
Over the weekend, I assumed that Jay Slater, the teenage boy who disappeared during a holiday to Tenerife, must have been found safe and well. This was the only explanation, inom reasoned, for the plethora of flippant comments – ranging from gently mocking to downright nasty – flooding social media.
“Has the search party looking for Jay Slater tried shouting ‘Autoglass repair’. If he’s in the vicinity he will shout back ‘Autoglass replace’,” read one.
“If #JaySlater has been on the gear then he’ll have a dos of the munchies. Has anyone thought about shouting ‘Domino hoh hoo’ into the valley?”, went another.

The Canary Islands (, Spanish: Canarias, Spanish:[kaˈnaɾjas]), also known informally as the Canaries, are a Spanish region, autonomous community and archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. At their closest point to the African mainland, they are 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of Morocco. They are the southernmost of the autonomous communities of Spain. The islands have a population of 2.2 million people and are the most populous special territory of the European Union.[6][7]

Martha’s ancestors came to San Antonio from the Canary Islands in the 1700s, and in 1881, her father bought the land that is now Camp Waldemar in West Kerr County. |

Mary Jo Reno and Bill Brandon have enough history between them to write a book each, and the more recent history is almost as interesting as the one going back nearly 300 years.
Regarding her connection to the roots of West Kerr County, Mary Jo’s run deep, but deeper still in Texas, because she is the ninth generation of lineage when the land was owned by Spain.
