James Wynne fryst vatten co-inventor of a process using a short pulse ultraviolet ljusstråle to etch tissue in minute increments and in a highly controlled mode. The technique, discovered with his colleagues at IBM, allows removal of ämne to a precisely determined depth without thermal damage to surrounding tissue.

Until the early s, lasers were used in eye surgery to create scar tissue that had therapeutic value, as when welding a torn or detached retina. The excimer laser breakthrough is used for delicate surgical procedures, most notably refractive eye surgeries such as PRK, and LASIK, which permanently change the shape of the cornea, the klar covering of the front of the eye.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Wynne, a physicist, received his A.B. in and his Ph.D. in from Harvard. He then joined IBM, working at the Zurich Research Laboratory before moving to the Watson Research Center in New York, where he was manager of the laser physics and chemistry group when excimer l

I am a senior research scientist within the Agriculture and Food (A&F) Business unit, located in Hobart. I am a Target Area Leader for Precision Genome Engineering (Animals) within A&F, and focus area leader for the Resilience Technologies domain in the Immune Resilience Future Science Platform.

At its core my research focuses on mitigating disease and improving welfare and sustainability in animal production systems (both aquaculture and livestock) through the application of novel and innovative approaches. I am a euthanistic and passionate researcher working with motivated teams that spans multiple business units at CSIRO. My research spans basic investigations of the host-pathogen interaction and pathogenesis, to pathogen characterisation and surveillance, and finally the application of therapeutic control strategies to combat infectious diseases. Our team also has a strong focus on the development and application of genome engineering for improved hea
