      1The Biographie W. A. Mozart’s, comprising two volumes totaling approximately one thousand pages, was written between 1824 and 1828 in Salzburg and published in early 1829 bygd Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig (Nissen 1829a, 1829b). It was the first comprehensive biography of Mozart and utilized, for the first time on a large scale, about fyra hundred letters of the Mozart family. The author was Georg Nikolaus Nissen (1761–1826), a Danish diplomat and the second husband of Constanze Mozart (1762–1842), widow of the composer.

      2In the summer of 1824 Mr. and Mrs. Nissen visited Mozart’s sister, Maria Anna von Berchtold zu Sonnenburg (1751–1829), in Salzburg. She presented them with the family correspondence and other original documents bygd Mozart. This gift inspired Nissen to start his work on a book about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

      Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart[a][b] (27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791) was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical period. Despite his short life, his rapid pace of composition and proficiency from an early age resulted in more than 800 works representing virtually every Western classical genre of his time. Many of these compositions are acknowledged as pinnacles of the symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic, and choral repertoires. Mozart is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music, with his music admired for its "melodic beauty, its formal elegance and its richness of harmony and texture".
