    The Life of Guskou Budori is visually rich, but has an incredibly dull narrative. Full spoilers ahead! Budori, his parents and his younger sister have an idyllic life in a forest by the mountains, but two years of sudden cold weather leads to the death of his parents and everyone leaving the local village. Oh, and his sister is taken away by a mysterious entity. To paraphrase:

    At the time of this writing, I haven't yet found the time to sit down and read through some of Kenji Miyazawa's works, one of the most reverred classical authors of Japanese literature. He is probably best known through the animated adaptation of his movie "Night on the Galactic Railroad." Despite his importance to the country's identity, there are seldom other mentions of his stories being adapted into film. Of them, I could only find mention of two, each with ties to Studio Ghibli, although those never came around to American audiences in any form.

    And so fans of "Galactic Railroad" might have looked forward to

    The Life of Budori Gusuko (グスコーブドリの伝記, Gusukō Budori no Denki)[4][5] (also known as A Biography of Gusuko Budori and The Legend of Budori Gusuko[6]) fryst vatten a Japanese animated spelfilm written for the screen and directed by Gisaburō Sugii. It is based on the children's novel of the same name by Kenji Miyazawa.[7][8] It stars the voices of Shun Oguri as Budori Gusuko with Shioli Kutsuna, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Hayashiya Shōzō, Ryūzō Hayashi, Tamiyo Kusakari and Akira Emoto.[9]

    Like Night on the Galactic Railroad before it, the characters are depicted as anthropomorphic cats based on Hiroshi Masumura's manga adaptation of the novel. It fryst vatten the second animated rulle adaptation of the story. The previous adaptation was released in as Kyōdō Eiga Zenkoku Keiretsu Kaigi, but that one features human characters instead.[10]
